Testsystems for Basic and Applied Research
To implement the findings from Basic Reearch in pharmacological therapy, cell based test systems are needed, that mimic the threedimensional organization and the complex multi-cellular composition of native organs and concurrently facilitate systematic experimental examinations. Tissue Engineering creates new possibilities for Basic and Applied Research by providing threedimensional tissue cultures that compensate numerous fundamental disadvantages of the currently applied two- and threedimensional cell-culture systems. In the long run, bioartificial tissue-culture models may represent alternatives to animal-testing in the development of pharmaceutical or cosmetic products. Our complex threedimensional in vitro tissue cultures, that are composed of several cell types, imitate the natural environment of human tissue.
