Our Projects

Skin Testsystem

The human skin represents a biological interface. Based on previous work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB) a bioartificial skin tissue was developed with the following morphological properties:

The test system was applied successfully in the following investigations:

Wound healing: An artificial lesion of the artificial skin heals entirely within 72 hours.

Infection studies: The varying invasive potential of different pathogenic candida strains was quantified using the artificial skin model.

Pentetration studies of nanomaterials: The penetration potential of carbo-nanotubes into human skin was investigated applying the bioartificial skin tissue.

Melanoma-model: The interactions of different skin cancers with co-cultivated microvascular endothelial cells were identified.
