Evolution

In basic research we could show the applicability of biological scaffolds for the generation of human bioartificial tissues.

In animal testing we defined essential qualities like biochemical composition and tolerable layer thickness of biological scaffolds for the clinical applicability of Tissue Engineering transplants.

We studied techniques and prerequisites of transplant-vascularization, the ingrowth of blood vessels into the Tissue Engineering transplant, which represents the premise for healing and transplant survival.

In numerous studies we could rule out the transfection of the Porcine Endogene Retrovirus (PERV) by the applied xenogenic biological material.

Our generated bioartificial tissue is viable and possesses a pronounced autoregenerative capacity. We could show the recovery of our bioartificial tissue following lethal clinical irradiation. Our bioartificial tissues are therefore practical for implantation in tumor patients, which might have to undergo radiotherapy following surgery.
